The 陽 of 陰陽 — the bright half, the warm half, the side facing the sun. 太陽 is the sun itself.

In Japan the crane is said to live a thousand years. 折り鶴 is the paper one, folded and given as a wish.

Good, in the plain moral sense. 善悪 is good and evil; 改善 is improvement.

The orchid. One of the four plants of classical painting, standing for quiet nobility.

Half of 瑠璃, the deep blue stone. On its own it is used mostly for its sound and its colour.

The character in 武士道, the way of the samurai, and in 柔道. Read dō, and the head of it is taken for do.
