KANJI GUIDE
A leaf. 言葉, the word for language, is literally leaves of speech.
The lotus. It grows out of mud and comes up clean, which is why Buddhism uses it.
A poem. 詩人 is a poet. The character is words and a temple — speech made formal.
The sky, and heaven with it. 天国 is paradise; 天気 is the weather.
